THINGS YOU CAN DO ON IRS.GOV
Make a Payment
You can do a lot of things in your tax account. By signing into your IRS.gov account, you will not have to re-verify your identity or other information.
Your ID.me login has already verified you. Once logged into the IRS.gov website, anything you do will be connected to your tax account.
You may need to make a payment to the IRS at various times and for various reasons. You can get to the payment start page by clicking on the Payment tab at the top of the page, or by clicking the Make A Payment button in the Payments box.
Click the Make A Payment button. Then choose a payment method.
Then select why you are making a payment.
-Pay 20XX Income Tax – (i.e. 2023) this is where you make your filed tax return payment in full.
-Pay Balance in Full – this is when you already have a balance listed in your tax account, and you want to pay it all off.
-Additional Payment Towards Plan – especially when you have a payment plan in place, this is for making that extra one-time payment towards a balance owed.
-Amended Return – if you have to amend your tax return and the result is that you owe more taxes, even though it is not processed, you can pay the tax due listed on the Amended Tax return.
-Estimated Tax – any time you are making a payment toward the tax liability of the current tax year.
-Extension – payment towards the taxes that will be due when you file your tax return by the extension due date.
-Proposed Tax Assessment – You have received a Notice or Letter from the IRS. Regardless of the outcome of the actual case, you know you will owe some money, so you make a payment towards the amount that will eventually be assessed once the case is closed.
Follow the directions to enter your payment method. We recommend a direct withdrawal from your bank account as there are no fees for processing. Debit and credit cards have various fees due to the transaction being completed by a third-party processor.
